Northern Breed Dogs: Siberian Husky
To the Northern Breed Dogs Index
The Siberian husky is a medium-sized, double-coated spitz-type dog originally bred by the Chukchi of Northeastern Asia to pull heavy loads long distances. A wide variety of colours are seen - though patterned black, grey and white is the most common, shades of red or sable are also seen. Their eyes are almond or round in shape, and can be brown, blue or one of each colour. They should be 21 to 23½ inches high (53-60 cm) for males and 20 to 22 inches (51-56 cm) for females. Their weight should be 45-60 pounds (20-27 kilos) for males, 35-50 pounds (16-23 kilos) for females.
